Webinar: Smartphone 'bans' and their association with adolescent mental health and wellbeing, and associated health and educational outcomes
Overview: This webinar will discuss the current evidence on the impact of school smartphone bans, and associations between adolescent smartphone and social media use and mental wellbeing. Implications and guidelines for policy and practice will be presented. The webinar will draw on evidence from: (1) The NIHR funded SMART Schools Study, which is the first evaluation worldwide of the impact of school phone policies on mental wellbeing; (2) The STARTING School Study, which is a Centre-UB PhD studentship in collaboration with Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust evaluating the role of phones during adolescents’ transition from primary to secondary school; and (3) The SPPP Study, which is focused on developing new guidelines and resources for schools and parents. This webinar is relevant to behavioural researchers broadly, and education, public health, and mental health focussed researchers and policy makers specifically, as well as young people, teachers and parents.
