Please join us at the next Doctoral School Open Meeting, where you will have the opportunity to raise questions with Professor Ken Badcock, the new Dean of the Doctoral School, and the Doctoral School Managers: Louise Davies (Funding and Recruitment), Alex Borrett (Operations and Student Experience) and Laura Christie (Training and Development) - and to start a discussion with the Doctoral School about matters which are of a concern to you.

Method: MS Teams (link will be sent to you on Friday 22 January, once you have registered to attend)

Registration by is compulsory. To register to attend and to submit any questions that you would like to have raised at the meeting please complete the Doctoral School Open Meeting registration form.

The deadline for pre-submission of questions is 12pm Tuesday 19 January
The deadline for registration to attend is 12 Friday 22 January

23/04/2024 10:00 24/04/2024 16:00 Europe/London 23 Things International - Virtual Writing Retreat 23Things will be running a two-day Virtual Writing Retreat from 23rd−24th April on Microsoft Teams. These sessions will be informal and encouraging, and are designed to motivate you though whatever writing or editing task you need to get done. 23Things is an international initiative, and we hope to be joined by colleagues and researchers from around the globe, all working on their own projects. This is a great chance to hear about research going on around the world, meet other PhD researchers, and spend time focusing on writing in an accountable, supportive environment. Some top tips include: Bring a piece of work with you. It might be part of a chapter or article you are writing, or maybe a presentation, bit of data analysis, or feedback you need to work through. Any task that would benefit from focused work time and motivation from your peers is appropriate. Get ready! Participants find that if they are set up when the retreat gets started, it's easier to focus. Open any documents or applications you need, grab a notebook, and shut off your phone and social media in advance. Get comfortable. Can you create your ideal writing environment? Check your chair and lighting, make a cup of tea or coffee, and get comfy. There will be regular breaks, but comfort is important to your productivity. 14/05/2024 18:30 14/05/2024 20:30 Europe/London The Right to Protest - A Cumberland Lodge London Dialogue Join us for a conversation about our right to protest, and its evolving role in shaping a better future. Protest is recognised not only as a human right, but also as a powerful catalyst for change. Young people, historically at the forefront of activism, continue to engage in protests on issues such as the climate crisis, social inequalities, and international conflicts. However, recent government legislation, including the Policing Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023, new forms of technology and surveillance, and increasingly dispersed centres of power, are changing how we think about dissent, and what is possible to achieve. The 2024 Cumberland Lodge London Dialogue will explore this evolving landscape of protest in the 21st century, deciphering what these changes may mean for all of us. A panel of research, student, and activist voices, chaired by The Rt Hon the Baroness Usha Prashar, will debate the new dynamics of protest, and the impact of new government legislation.
