Join us both on campus and online for this year’s conference. Present in the live on campus poster competition on the 9, and participate in our online workshop on ‘The Last 6 Months to Submission and Viva’, our online Journal Editors Panel and Social Event on the 10.  Full details can be found below.

 Thursday 9 June 2022 online

9.30 - 12.30 Enter the on campus poster competition – online

(single PowerPoint slide, see guidance below*, 4 minutes presentation, 4 minutes open discussion). There are 21 slots available, we will add an additional afternoon session at 14.00 on the same day if there is demand or extend the morning.

There are prizes for the best 3 posters: 1st prize £300, 2nd prize £150, 3rd prize £75. There will be a short break mid-session.

Friday 10 June 2022 online

10.00 - 12.00 Workshop: ‘The Last 6 months to Submission and Viva’ with our Alumni, Prof. Rosemary Deem and Dr Laura Christie.

This workshop will include experiences and tips from our alumni about the last 6 months of their research degree leading up to their submission and Viva. We will look to answer questions such as how do I plan these last 6 months; how do I get over procrastination; what if I’m not going to make the deadline; what do I do in the time between submission and viva; and any other questions.

Our alumni, Rosemary and Laura will offer guidance.

There will be a cap of 40 participants for this workshop, so apply early.

13.30 - 15.00 Journal Editors panel. A selection of experienced journal editors who work at Royal Holloway.  You can send in questions about articles and publishing beforehand and ask questions in the session itself.

15.30 - 16.15 Virtual end of year social and poster prizes awarded.

Virtual social discussing themes such as how has the year gone and what kind of conference and events should we be prioritising for 2022 - 2023?

If you are planning to present a poster, please say that in your response.

Supervisors are also welcome to attend the poster presentation and the social.

*Poster guidance:

  •  Poster slide should be Widescreen 16:9.
  • 1 slide only and sent as a PowerPoint slide file and not pdf or other format.
  • Advised to not have unveiling text/images but gifs and memes can be used if embedded in slide.
  • Make the text readable so not too small
  • Please remember to include your name and department.
  • Refer to the slide itself in your 4 mins presentation so there is a link between the slide and presentation e.g. in the bottom left hand image/table/chart you can see….
  • Always think of your audience – they are outside your discipline for the most part so make the work accessible.
  • Think about impact of the research – who would benefit by the results
