Keynote lecture by Sir Gregory Paul Winter CBE FRS FMedSci

"Harnessing the power of evolution for making new medicines"

The lecture is open to all Postgraduate students and staff in the College and the attendance is free. It is, however, part of the Postgraduate Symposium and is aimed at the postgraduate audience in the School of Biological Sciences. The lecture will be followed by will followed by an informal "Meet the Speaker" session starting at 5 pm (Queen's Building Foyer). Light refreshments will be provided.

Postgraduate students in the School of Biological Sciences who deliver talks and present Posters at this Postgraduate Symposium and staff from the School of Biological Sciences are not required to obtain tickets.

Any other students, staff from Departments other than the School of Biological Sciences and any other guests will have to obtain tickets in advance through Eventbrite to gain access. Booking will open at 9 am on the 1st of April 2019.  Lecture theatre capacity is 250 people.

This lecture is likely to be very popular so please arrive in good time.  Doors will open at 3:45 pm.

Please note: This date of the lecture (30th April 2019) falls within the undergraduate exam period in the College. Please be considerate to students on Campus who will be sitting exams on that day, including in the Shilling building. Filming and audio recording of this lecture or any other Postgraduate Symposium presentations are not allowed.

About the speaker: Sir Gregory Paul Winter is a molecular biologist best known for his work on the directed evolution of antibodies and developing technologies to make therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. For his work on "harnessing the power of evolution" he was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with George Smith and Frances Arnold.
