Portals & Pathways - School of Humanities PGR Colloquium – 2022
31 May (in-person) – 1 Jun (online)
Every day, we pass through portals and enter new spaces, literally and figuratively. In so doing, we change both ourselves and our surroundings. Liminality can be many things: exciting, dangerous, constructive or destructive. Whether these shifts are made to adapt to new realities like the pandemic, transcend spiritual planes, decolonise imperial boundaries or explore the complexities of diaspora, through them, we adapt our ideas of ‘normalcy’ and even humanity. In an ever-globalised world, these issues are ever more pressing. How can we as an interdisciplinary research community reflect on and respond to these shifts? Where do we see liminal or transitional space in our work, and how does our own movement throughout our different guises (student, parent, friend, employee, artist, teammate) affect us as humans and researchers?
Contributions to this conversation are welcome from across the School of Humanities in formats including but not limited to: papers, short talks, posters, creative performances, pre-recorded sessions, workshops, and panels. Participants may wish to consider these topics as a starting point:
- Gender and cultural identities
- Translation and representation

- Empire/imperialism
