Rock Fractures and Fluid Flow

The Rock Fractures and Fluid Flow research group’s interests are in the physics of various geological and physical processes. More specifically, research focuses on volcanotectonics, seismotectonics, fluid transport in porous and fractured reservoirs, as well as the thermodynamics/statistical mechanics of lineaments and networks.

Directed by Professor Agust Gudmundsson the team includes postdoctoral researchers, PhD and MSc postgraduate students and has global collaborations with industrial partners and academic institutes. The group’s predominant research methods include 2D and 3D finite and boundary element modelling, analytical and analogue modelling, experimental rock mechanics and quantitative field studies.
