GM3009 German Language III

Assessment:

Oral Examination: 50%, Written Examination 50%

Overview:

GM3009 is a core language course for all Year 4 students. The course consists of three components: 1. Essay, 2. Translation, 3. Oral. In the Essay component students learn to write a specific type of German essay, the “Erörterung”, and to present and discuss current affairs topics. Learning activities in class will focus on how to present a convincing argument in advanced spoken and written German. In the translation component, students will work on advanced German-English translation, dealing mainly with journalistic and literary texts.The weekly oral sessions are designed to give you the opportunity to improve your fluency in spoken German.

Key Bibliography:

A large, comprehensive English-German, German-English dictionary (For example: Oxford-Duden or Cambridge-Klett).

A comprehensive one-volume monolingual German dictionary (For example: Duden Universal-Wörterbuch or Wahrig Deutsches Wörterbuch).
