Overview:
This course is designed to sensitize students to key ideas relating to literary translation at advanced level. It will improve comprehension and production of written Spanish and English, and develop students’ translation skills beyond everyday registers. Term 1 will cover English to Spanish translation and Term 2 will be for Spanish to English, with classes being interactive and practical and in most weeks a passage to prepare. Students have the option of submitting any or all of their work if they would like written feedback. The Spanish to English half of the course is divided between practical translation of passages from Spanish literature and commentary work on professional translations of Spanish poetry.

*Moliner, María, Diccionario de uso del español, (1988) is an indispensable monolingual dictionary. Students do not have to purchase their own copy but must check it when preparing all their work (available in the library).
