This event is aimed at researchers and academic staff.

Aim: To introduce researchers to a range of social media audio and video apps and help them use a smartphone to create engaging social content in order to promote their teaching and research.

Objectives: At the end of the ½ day workshop staff will have:

  • Reviewed a number of social media (SM) apps and select those that are best suited to effectively in promote and disseminate their research.
  • Discussed and practised some ways of creating their own content for social media, using their smartphone.
  • Considered the latest trends in the use of social media for academic and teaching purposes.
  • Reviewed their Twitter, Instagram or other active SM accounts and established individual social media goals for the next few months

The session is open to staff already active in social media, at different levels of engagement; from those simply sending short messages, links and occasional photos, to those frequently sharing their original images, audio or video.

The workshop will include a mixture of group discussion and practical work using your smartphone.  Please bring your smartphone whatever the model or make and/or a tablet as well as your laptop. Before the workshop you will be asked to fill in short survey in order to tailor the session best to your needs.
