What is it?

An interactive half day workshop that provides a non-judgemental approach aimed at exploring how unconscious bias operates in the workplace.  The workshop will guide you in understanding what unconscious bias is and when unacknowledged bias is less easily managed how it can manifest and more likely to affect our everyday behaviour and potentially impact decision making.  The workshop provides an opportunity for participants to have increased self-awareness.  Participants learn specific techniques and tools for eliminating their own bias and recognising other organisational biases in the workplace.  A key learning outcome is to explore and provide insight into how unconscious bias can assist in working towards removing cultural and organisational barriers so that the potential of diverse staff can be maximised.

Target audience

The workshop is aimed and encourages all levels of staff, support and academic at Royal Holloway.

This course is mandatory for all line managers.

Recruitment and Selection

What is it?

This workshop covers the first stage of the recruitment process from identifying a vacancy up to the shortlisting stage.  Through a series of group exercises and group discussion the workshop will include preparing an advert, the purpose of a job description and person specification and what they should contain.  There will also be an opportunity to obtain up to date information on employment legislation in the areas of discrimination, equality and immigration.  Participants will be encouraged to share best practice and discuss difficulties they have experienced with previous recruitment.  The trainer will also discuss the colleges Recruitment and Selection best practices and procedures.

Target audience

All members of staff sitting on recruitment panels are required to undergo this training.

This course is mandatory for all line managers.

Programme objectives

Be the end of the workshop participants will be confident in preparing to advertise a position including putting together an advert, job description and person specification.  They will also have a good knowledge of employment legislation related to recruitment and the colleges best practice.
