May is national walking month, so what better time to set aside some time in your day to get outside and get moving!
Keeping yourself physically active does not have to involve strenuous exercise, so that’s why this May we are encouraging you to integrate a daily walk into your routine to help you both physically and mentally. Whether it’s alone or with a friend, fast or slow, for ten minutes or one hour, any walking you can do will positively impact your overall health. The best thing about walking is it’s free, you can explore the local area and it’s an excellent time to take a break from your computer to clear your mind.
To celebrate national walking month and to give you that extra bit of encouragement to get in those daily steps, we are setting up three challenges for you on Royal Holloway Moves. These will be challenges of 5000, 7500 or 10,000 steps per day throughout May, depending on how much of a challenge you want to give yourself. The more steps you do, the greater the points reward!
With the points you earn, you’ll be able to spend them on a variety of rewards both on and off campus, including hot drinks, cookies, discount codes and charity donations.
We’ll be updating you each week on how far we’ve walked as a staff collective, so let’s see what we can achieve together!

Once you have downloaded the app and connected your tracker, join the ‘Royal Holloway Staff’ group and click on ‘Challenges’. This is where you’ll be able to join your chosen challenge and start chipping away at your step goal.
