Dec 23 2021

On 22 December 2021, an update was published on the student intranet with information ahead of returning to campus for term two teaching. An edited version of the student update is below. As a College, we are continually monitoring the latest guidance and will be updating all staff with more information, if the situation changes.

Update on Term Two - FAQ

As a College, we hope you enjoyed the winter break and are pleased to be welcoming you back to campus for term two.

Please note, to keep yourself, and our campus community safe, we expect all students and staff to take a lateral flow test before travelling back to campus, and to continue to take tests at least twice a week. You can order lateral flow testing kits from the government website, and students who are living in Halls can collect testing kits from their Hall block.

Will term two teaching be moved online?

As a College, we are continuing to monitor the ongoing situation regarding Covid-19, and will take instruction from the Department of Education on whether teaching will need to be moved online. Currently (22 December 2021) there does not appear to be any plan to move teaching online. If the situation changes, we will contact all students and staff with further information and advice as soon as possible.

Can international students stay at home and study online?

As of today (22 December 2021), the UK Government has not made any announcements about teaching moving online. As such, we are continuing to plan for the in-person delivery of modules which had been timetabled as in-person.

We therefore ask that all students continue to make arrangements to return to study in-person for the start of term two on Monday 10 January 2022. However, we recognise there is still uncertainty ahead and so if the situation changes we will contact all students and staff with further information and advice. Equally in the new year, if students find they are unable to travel as planned, for example if travel restrictions in their country prevent them from returning to the UK, we ask that they follow local regulations and contact the College to let us know that they are unable to travel; we will provide further advice by Friday 7 January 2022.

What measures are the College putting in place to ensure students and staff are safe on campus?

As a College, the preventive Covid-19 measures that we already have in place are in line with, or go beyond, the UK Government’s current guidance, such as our expectations around the wearing of face coverings in all indoor spaces. This currently means we do not need to make any further changes when returning to face-to-face teaching, as per the current government guidance for the sector.

Our decision to retain social distancing in teaching spaces, and in a reconfigured Library and other spaces, has meant that we are able to continue to provide the services our students value while safeguarding the health and safety of us all, and we expect students and staff to continue to play your part and help keep our campus and wider community safe.
