As EU nationals working for the College you will be aware that with the UK leaving the EU on 31 December 2020, the requirements for those working in the UK have now changed. A six month period until 30 June 2021 was put in place to allow for EU nationals in the UK by 31 December to apply for Settled or Pre-settled status which provided them with the right to live and work in the UK after this date.
There are now less than 30 days to go until the deadline of 30 June 2021 for applications to be made to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS). All eligible EU, EEA and Swiss citizens and their family members, who have not already done so are therefore encouraged to apply without delay at www.gov.uk/eusettlementscheme.
EU, EEA and Swiss nationals applying for a post with the College after 1 July 2021 (including existing employees applying for a new post) will need to demonstrate their right to work either with pre-settled or settled status, or with a visa under the points-based immigration system.
Further support is available for those who need help to apply at: www.gov.uk/help-eu-settlement-scheme.
If you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen (including your family members) and have lived in the UK for many years or have a permanent residence document or EEA Biometric Residence Card (BRC), you will still need to apply to the EUSS (or apply for British Citizenship) by 30 June 2021 to continue to live and work in the UK.
If you have eligible close family members who are living overseas they can apply to join you as an EU, EEA or Swiss family member if you started living in the UK by 31 December 2020. They can apply to come to the UK at any point. More information on joining family members can be found on GOV.UK.
If you have successfully applied to the EUSS you can access your pre-settled or settled status online, you can also update your personal details, and get a ‘share code’ to confirm your status at: www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status.
Not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020
If you were not resident in the UK before 31 December 2020, you will not be eligible to make an application under the EUSS. However, you may still be eligible to work in the UK through the points-based immigration system or other alternative visa routes.
