The temporary adjustments to right to work checks due to Covid-19, which allowed employers to carry out checks over video calls, are coming to an end on 16 May.
From 17 May 2021, employers have a legal duty to conduct right to work checks in line with the Government’s guidance which requires the employer to check the acceptable documents in person, scanned or photos of original documents will not be acceptable.
There is no requirement to carry out retrospective checks on those who had a Covid-19 adjusted check between 30 March 2020 and 16 May 2021.
