1.  Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role as Digital Communications Officer (Social Media)?

I joined Royal Holloway in 2019 as a member of the Digital Team with a focus on website development. My interest in social media began whilst studying my Research Masters in Theatre and Performance at the University of Plymouth. My thesis titled, ‘Exploring Privilege through the creation and Live/Digital Performance of an Alter Ego’ had a strong emphasis on building a presence online in particular, using social media platforms such as, Twitter and Instagram. This led to a strand of my research focusing on how social media platforms worked noting when and what to post to achieve the best engagement, which sparked my interest in digital communications. Within my role as Digital Communications Officer (Social Media), I am responsible for content creation and the day-to-day monitoring and scheduling across our social media accounts.

2.  You recently moved from a different role in the Digital team - what are you enjoying most in your new role so far?

My favourite part of my new role is working with social platforms that are constantly evolving. I really enjoy discovering new features or trends and creating content that aligns with this that also promotes Royal Holloway.

3.  Are there any upcoming projects which you are particularly looking forward to working on in your role?

Through our ongoing social media data reporting, we are beginning to see a shift from a Facebook generation to a TikTok era where our content is consumed in shorter bursts. Therefore, a priority for me will be to work with the wider Marketing Directorate to create content that is relatable to our target audience around key points such as, A level results day, Welcome Week and the application process for the next cycle.

4.  What do you enjoy most about working at Royal Holloway?

I find it inspiring working collaboratively with such creative teams across the Marketing and Communications directorate. It’s always great to be able to share ideas and see work come together.

5.  How do you like to spend your free time?

I really enjoy running, I’ve recently signed up for my first half marathon so I will be training for that throughout the summer.
