Sustainability is at the core of many initiatives across our university and is very much at the forefront of our minds following the recent COP27 conference in Egypt. This month, Royal Holloway joined London Higher’s sustainability pledge to build upon the sustainability work already underway across London Higher Education Institutes, which includes commitments to improvements across our campuses in the future. Our sustainability strategy also recognises the impact that we have, not only on our students and colleagues, but on wider society. Key to our strategy is our expertise in research and education, some of which was highlighted during COP27, as well as managing all of our operations with care. Examples include our Estates team working to increase biodiversity across our campuses and enhancing sustainability through all long term projects across our buildings. Our Commercial Services team has reduced deliveries to campus by 20%, achieved gold accreditation with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, and continue to encourage students in halls to recycle and re-use where possible. These examples are just a snapshot of the work taking places across our university. We’d love to hear from you if you have any sustainability initiatives that we can share with students and colleagues - please get in touch.
