Employability is in the spotlight for all UK universities. At Open Days prospective students, and their influencers, are more focused than ever on likely graduate destinations from all of our degree programmes. The new centralised Graduates Outcomes Survey for 2018 graduates launches this year, replacing the Destination of Leavers from HE survey (DLHE) and we are seeing many national changes in policy including the deployment of Longitudinal Education Outcome (LEO) salary data, the expansion of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and updates to the Office for Fair Access (OFFA). There is a common theme; employability. 

In this strategic context Professor Katie Normington, Senior Vice-Principal (Academic), is leading on the delivery and consultation of the new Royal Holloway institutional employability strategy; integrating the work of academic departments and professional services into one meaningful framework.

As well as the role of employability in the curriculum, our employability strategy will also encourage stronger connections between Royal Holloway and employers, so that together we can raise students’ aspirations, spot talent and directly recruit students into roles where they will flourish. The new Careers & Employability facilities in the Davison Building, where students and potential employers can meet in person, is already supporting this agenda. 

How can you help? Everybody can have a role in helping to raise our profile with potential employers. Careers & Employability always welcomes recommendations of organisations that may be interested in hiring our students and/or visiting our campus. If you know of an employer who is looking to recruit students or who might be interested to find out more about how internships might support their business, please email your suggestions and we will follow up from there.
