Costing

How to cost data management in grant applications

Data management and sharing activities need to be costed into research, in terms of time and resources needed. Early planning of data management can significantly reduce the costs.

It is important to consider the costs that may occur as a result of creating and preserving data. This will include the impact on staff time and the resources that will be needed when creating and preserving your data. It is important to consider:

  • Storage requirements both short and long term
  • Impact on staff time of preparing data e.g. data cleaning and anonymization and compiling documentation and metadata
