First aid training course


First aid needs and subsequent training for the College is co-ordinated by the Health and Safety Office. This course covers the practical skills needed by a first aider in the workplace. The course will give delegates the confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies.

Course content:

The key elements of the course are as follows:

  • Accidents and illness
  • Using a first aid kit
  • Simple record keeping
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Heart attacks
  • Resuscitation
  • Shock
  • Choking
  • Bleeding
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Fractures
  • Seizures
  • Asthma
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Eye injuries
  • Low blood sugar
  • Fainting

Course duration:

First aid at work:  3 consecutive days

First aid at work re-qualification:  2 consecutive days

Course venue:

Training takes place off campus at St John Ambulance training centres.  The location can be chosen by delegates at time of booking.
