The induction process
When you start work, your line manager or another person from your department will act as your 'induction facilitator'. They will help you get all the information, equipment and training you need to settle into your role as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
Staff induction checklist
Your induction facilitator will complete an induction checklist with you during your first two weeks.
Health and safety induction
A health and safety induction will be carried out by someone from your department. You will also complete a display screen assessment, if this is relevant to your role.
New starter FAQs
We have put together some frequently asked questions to help you find out more about working here.
Staff induction events
Most staff will be invited to a staff induction event. This half-day event will help you to:
- Learn about the College's history
- Hear from senior staff about our present acheivements and plans for the future
- Find out about the College's operations and facilities available to staff
- Meet other new starters.
Academic staff
If you teach, you will be invited to attend an 'introduction to teaching at Royal Holloway' course. This is run by Educational Development, which also runs the CAPITAL and inSTIL courses.
Training
There are certain mandatory training courses that you should complete when you start work. Find out more about mandatory training.
If you have other training needs, please discuss these with your line manager. You can find out more about the College's support for your development through Organisational Development and Diversity.
Probation
Details of your probation will be stated in your letter of appointment. Probation is a period of continuous review and your manager will meet with you at regular internals to review progress.
Feedback
The College is committed to high quality induction. If you have any comments or feedback about the induction process, please email orgdev@royalholloway.ac.uk. We will also send you a feedback survey once you have been working here for a few months.
