Programme objectives

  • Describe the legal position on bullying and harassment, understand the Equality Act 2010.
  • Define bullying and harassment in the workplace.
  • Recognise and challenge bullying behaviour.
  • Identify the effects of bullying and harassment on the individual and the organisation.
  • Know about the Royal Holloway Dignity at Work policy.
  • Understand how to make effective and preventative changes.
  • Know what to do and where to go to establish support when managing a bullying and harassment case.
  • Consider prevention and problem solving.
  • Understand how to share the knowledge with colleagues and create a mindset change.

Target audience

Managers (all levels), leaders and team leaders.

This workshop is aimed at managers who would like to enhance their knowledge of both the legal requirements and the soft skills required to manage cases involving bullying and harassment within and around their teams. 

Programme components

Delegates will spend time understanding the Equality Act and the College Dignity at Work policy and explore the impact of these within the context of the work environment, in terms of process and due diligence. Additionally, the workshop will explore how to identify bullying and harassment within their teams or departments and consider how to prevent situations arising. This will include knowing what to look for, behaviours and noticing changes within the teams.

The workshop will begin by exploring the Equality Act, understanding the terminology of Bullying and Harassment (Victimisation), the nine protected characteristics, then moving on to exploring potential behaviours and the impact of the behaviours, the College Dignity at Work Policy, where and how to get support when required, and finally action planning – considering how to apply the learning to their own workplace context.
