Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Cultural awareness

This half day workshop focuses on improving and providing participants with an understanding of cultural awareness. It is useful for both academics and support staff working with international students to develop more effective cross-cultural communication methods. It targets areas of work across the University whereby staff can be more empowered to implement tools and working across cultures in a more inclusive way.

Developing diverse leaders

The College is committed to encouraging the development of individuals from all backgrounds, and provides a number of courses to support this.

Disability awareness

Organisations and individuals are often made to feel that they should understand disability. This is impossible if they have never been given the knowledge about it. Disability Awareness Training ensures staff are able to feel comfortable with disability when supporting students and colleagues by providing the skills, tools and practical know how.

Equality and diversity Moodle course

Equality, diversity and inclusion is about recognising differences between people and promoting opportunity for all, giving every individual the chance to achieve their potential, free from prejudice and discrimination. An inclusive workplace ensures on one feels left out and allows people to be themselves at work

This module is aimed at all staff and introduces the basic concepts of equal opportunities and diversity in relation to all the protected characteristics, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, disability, etc., and provides an overview of the main legislation and its implications.

Introduction to trans awareness Moodle course

This Moodle course provides an introduction to trans awareness.

Springboard

Springboard is a women's development programme.

Unconscious bias

An interactive half day workshop that provides a non-judgemental approach aimed at exploring how unconscious bias operates in the workplace. The workshop will guide you in understanding what unconscious bias is and when unacknowledged bias is less easily managed how it can manifest and more likely to affect our everyday behaviour and potentially impact decision making. The workshop provides an opportunity for participants to have increased self-awareness. Participants learn specific techniques and tools for eliminating their own bias and recognising other organisational biases in the workplace. A key learning outcome is to explore and provide insight into how unconscious bias can assist in working towards removing cultural and organisational barriers so that the potential of diverse staff can be maximised.
