Volunteering in sport

Grow your skills through a range of opportunities!

Whether you’re interested in learning to coach, gain experience in event planning or to inspire people to be more active, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Our volunteering opportunities aren't just about giving back to the community. All of our opportunities are designed to help you to learn and grow specific skills that are going to stand out to future employers.

What could you do?

Activator - Our Just Play Activators create a safe and friendly environment for students to experience sport. Ensuring everyone is included, and that sessions run smoothly.

Learn to Play Coach - Interested in becoming a coach? Our Learn to Play sessions are designed for students with little sport experience. Volunteer as a coach, and help your peers develop their skills in a new sport!

Volunteer as a Group -  Most of the opportunities on our volunteering portal can also be done by groups.

Events volunteer - Learn more about event managment, grow your organisational skills by volunteering at one of our on campus events, or a large scale external event.

Why should you volunteer?

"Being a basketball volunteer gives me the opportunity to play and extend my knowledge of the sport with other students, helping me make a positive impact in the community. This opportunity allows me meet amazing people and grow both professionally and personally.

Being a basketball volunteer keeps me close to the things I love…Basketball and people" - Gokul Parandhaman - Just Play Basketball Activator

"Last year I came to Beginners sessions, and the volunteer leading it really inspired me into wanting to do the role this year. I like teaching everyone and seeing them come back every week because they enjoy the sessions. It’s been great to see everyone progress and knowing I have helped people progress onto an actual football team has been really fulfilling" Jess Gavin- Learn to Play Football Coach

Campus community days

We frequently host local community groups and schools on campus. These community events help to inspire local children to try new sports, and experience our brilliant facilities, all while helping you build new leadership skills. Look out for these opportunities on our volunteering portal.

Links with the local community

As well as hosting events on campus, we have an extensive links with local community groups and sports clubs. Many students volunteer within these local clubs, building great relationships. Whether it's coaching children, playing in local sports teams, or working with local charities, Royal Holloway students are making a big positive impact.... and you can too!
