National Volunteers' Week


Let's Celebrate Volunteering! 

Volunteers' Week is a national celebration of volunteering where charities, schools and universities champion their volunteers and their amazing work. 

Each year, Royal Holloway organises amazing events for students and staff to take part in. Why not end the academic year with some volunteering? 

Love Your Community- Gardening in Egham Town

Date: Sunday 2 June 

Time: 11am-12noon 

Meeting place: Outside Waitrose in Egham 

Activity: Supporting a gardening project in Egham, as well as litter picking and tidying!

Inspiring Governance- Become a volunteer School Governor 

Date: Monday 3 June 

Time: 11am-4pm

Meeting Place: Stand at the Davision Building 

Activity: Come and hear from Inspiring Governance, a national charity dedicated to recruiting and training volunteers to act as governors in local school.

Runnymede Foodbank- Donation packing 

Date: Monday 3 June 

Time: 10.30am-12noon

Meeting Place: Virginia Lodge, nr Egham Station 

Activity: Help our Foodbank team as they pack bags of donated groceries for local people in need!

Donate and Reuse- Pop-Up shop! 

Date: Tuesday 4 June 

Time: 11am-3pm

Meeting Place: Davison Building Event space and Founders Square 

Activity: Do you have leftover food in your cupboards at the end of term, or clothes that you have not worn in ages? Then you are in luck! Your Donate and Reuse project have teamed up with British Heart Foundation and Runnymede Food Bank to place donation points in halls of residence all around campus. You can find their donation station on Founders Square or a British Heart Foundation pop-up shop in the Davison event space.

LinkAble Choir- Singing with local disabled people

Date: Wednesday 5 June 

Time: 1.30pm-2.30pm

Meeting Place: Gower and Wedderburn Common Room

Activity: If you have a passion for working with disabled people, our new LinkAble choir project is having a taster session. In this project, students come together with local people with learning disabilities to sings songs and play music!

Grow Wild Project- Community Garden with St Jude's School

Date: Wednesday 5 June 

Time: 1pm-3pm

Meeting Place: Community Garden, by the Katherine Worth (drama) building

Activity: Our Community Garden project is hosting pupils from St Jude's School on Wednesday for an afternoon of gardening fun! We will be focusing on habitats and wildlife, so if you want to work with children or gardening then this is ideal!

Nature Conservation- Cutting down invasive trees!

Date: Wednesday 5 June 

Time: 1.30pm-4pm

Meeting Place: Founders Bus Stop 

Activity: Working with the National Trust, our team is going into the local woodlands to help clear out invasive trees!

Love Your Community- Gardening in Egham town centre! 

Date: Thursday 6 June 

Time: 10am-4pm

Meeting Place: Hummer Road car park in Egham

Activity: If you want to spend the day taking part in a fun gardening project then we have just the thing for you! Working with the local council and residents, our group is preparing a planter in the Hummer Road car park, behind Tesco in Egham.

Date: Friday 7 June 

Time: Drop in from 9am-6pm 

Meeting Place: The Literary Institute at Egham

Activity: The Community Research Hub now has a base in the Egham Literary Institute, and you are welcome to use the space to meet community partners and get involved in great research opportunities.
