Cybercriminals target universities in the UK

During the past year cybercriminals targeted over 18 British universities in order to gain access to their credentials. The majority of these attacks were performed using phishing emails and the creation of similar websites of the targeted universities.

It is not yet clear whether the the universities were targeted due to their relation with the NCSC.

A great way to mitigate the risks of a cyber-attack is to remain aware of how we can best protect ourselves against phishing and ransomware.

A phishing email cam be identified by following the points below:

•              Receiving an unprovoked email

•              An email that has an unnecessary urgent tone

•              Different links than legitimate sites

•              Grammatical errors within the email

•              A different email address to the sender
