Internships offer a great way to get experience

Internships are usually structured 10 or 12 week summer work experience schemes offered by large organisations and companies.

They are commonly found in sectors such as IT, finance, consulting and law. They are often aimed at penultimate year students and are very competitive, so it is vital that you apply early.

Most are offered during the summer period but application deadlines start from as early as October of the year before and run through to February.

Some sectors like charity, fashion, PR and music typically do not pay their interns. The Careers Group does not publicise unpaid internships unless they are offered by a registered charity.

If you have found your own internship, you can also gain Passport points for it. To qualify, you need to have worked for the organisation for a minimum of 35 hours.  Complete the internships/placements form and email to the passport team to claim your points.
