Why did you decide to become a Student Ambassador?

The main reason why I became a Student Ambassador was because of the flexible weekday hours. As a Music student, I have a lot of evening rehearsals which can often be scheduled last minute – so I’m not able to work most bar jobs or others with a regular time commitment. Being a Student Ambassador allows me to take shifts when I have less academic work to do, and to not take shifts towards the end of term, when I have more. The pay is also really great compared to other jobs available to students, particularly those off campus – of course this is also benefit to the job!

What jobs have you enjoyed doing most?

In my opinion, one of the best Student Ambassador jobs is working Open and Applicant Visit Days. These are great fun for me because I get to spend a day talking to prospective students and their parents about everything I love at Royal Holloway. When I came to these as a prospective student I knew that this was the right university for me straight away thanks to the warm and friendly atmosphere, and partly this was from the Student Ambassadors that I met. Being able to provide the same positive experience (hopefully!) to visitors as a Student Ambassador is a great privilege!

Another great thing about working the Open and Applicant Visit Days is the chance to develop a more personal relationship with some of the teaching staff in my department through working with them for the day. As well as working with the teaching staff, working on Open and Applicant Visit Days means that I get to work as part of a great team of Student Ambassadors, all of whom are very friendly and chatty and made me feel welcome from my first shift.

What are your future career plans?

I have actually wanted to become a doctor for a long time! Studying music has been a great opportunity to focus on myself and develop what will be my lifelong hobby, but now I feel that the time is right for me to take the plunge into medicine. So, this year I will be applying to Graduate Entry Medicine courses!
