Why did you decide to become a Student Ambassador?

I would often see student ambassadors giving tours around campus and I always thought that it was a fun job to do! So when the applications for the job were advertised I applied straight away. I’m the type of person who will try to be as active as possible in order for me to gain the experience and for my CV, to look good and be employable in the future. This is another reason why I applied for the SA Scheme.

What jobs have you enjoyed doing most?

I enjoy all the roles the job has to offer. However, what I’ve enjoyed most has been leading the campus tours. Although I was a bit nervous on my first one, through time I managed to be more comfortable and I got used to giving them to people. These campus tours had developed my communication, marketing, and people skills, which is essential for me to have on my CV. I found this job quite fun to do as well, because all I need to do is to walk around campus and share my experience to the people. Lately, I’ve been developing some humour in my campus tours, and it turns out I’m successful in it. I can do as many shifts for this job without hesitation because I really, really love it!

Another type of campus tours is the live campus tour, which I also enjoy doing. This is basically the same as a regular campus tour, however, the process of the campus tour is recorded and live-streamed online. This job has made me more confident to speak in front of a camera. Also, most of the viewers on the live campus tours are international students. I feel like I can relate to them if they have questions and it makes me really happy to be able to help international students with their queries.

What are your future career plans?

My main objective career in my life is to work as a lecturer at a university. But, I will need to work up towards that and gain other work experiences before I work as a lecturer. First, I will try to become a Senior Ambassador in the SA Scheme to develop more skills. Second, I will try to find a summer internship or a work insight for a company. Third, as soon as I graduate I will try to find a job in a marketing team for a university of a company. For this one I will try to apply for Royal Holloway, if there are any vacancies. Then I’ll apply for a Master’s and PhD, and hopefully one day I can become a lecturer.
