Graduate voice Get Hired this Summer

Some recent graduates who attended our Get Hired this Summer all-day event shared how they benefited from the experience. Here's what they had to say...Brigid Tamara Mensah

“I came to the Get Hired this Summer event as I want to get my foot on the career ladder. The one-to-one session has helped me to recognise that to progress, it helps to tailor my CV to the individual job application and that it’s time to up the pace and get experience, even if it's voluntary work or not my creative dream role.”

Brigid Tamara Mensah, Media Arts graduate

Taz Findik

“My one-to-one was really useful. I now have a list of things to put into action – from tips on how to re-structure my CV, such as making my top skills more obvious to set myself apart from other candidates, to sending speculative emails to companies I’d like to work with and referencing the company more in an application.”

Shiwani Gurung

“I was finding it really challenging to find entry-level roles for Economics graduates by searching on Google. I now know how to search for particular jobs and have a list of useful websites. We also discussed my interest in health and education and the potential for me to find a job with the Civil Service. The whole experience was very useful.”

“We looked at my CV and I learned how to tweak it for individual job applications. We looked at examples of the framework and competencies for some jobs, so I’ll definitely do that when applying for roles.”

Pietro Cesaraccio

“I came to the event as I have a BA in Film, TV and Digital Production, but want to move sideways and work in a creative and development role in advertising. My long-term goal is to become a Creative Director. I got advice that the way to achieve this is to break into a company where I may not be working in my ideal role but have the potential to get there eventually through internal promotion.”

“I also got tips on how to maximise LinkedIn to network and learn about the path taken by people working in the type of roles and companies, I’d like to work in.”

Pietro Cesaraccio, BA in Film, TV and Digital Production graduate

Sophie Lee

“I’m taking a year out to complete the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) and get some work experience. I saw the event in Senate House as an opportunity to run my plans by a Careers Consultant. The fact that my travel expenses were covered was also appealing.”

“I enjoyed the reflective element of the ‘Deciding on your ideal career’ workshop and learned about jobs websites I hadn’t heard of before in the job hunting session, which is really useful.”

Sophie Lee, Psychology graduate
