2019-20 Travel and Research Awards are now open!

The Travel and Research awards can be used to help fund any travel or research associated with your studies taken place with the current academic year (October 2019-September 2020), even if only indirectly related.

Previous awardees have used funding to allow them to present papers at international conferences, undertake research for their dissertation or PhD thesis and attend a career placement. To find out more about the projects undertaken by previous winners, you can read their travel reports on the 2015-16 2016-172017-18 and 2018-19 awardees page.

For 2019-20 there are several awards available to apply for and the full award criteria can be found in the Awards Overview below. Please note that you can only apply for one award each year.

The deadline for applications is 9am GMT on Monday 20 January 2020

Application Information

Please note that we are only able to accept one application per student. If you are undecided between applying for a specialist award (e.g. the Irene Marshall Scholarship) and a Travel Award, it is recommended that you apply for the specialist award. If you are unsuccessful in the specialist award but travel is involved, your application will automatically be considered for a Travel Award.

A group of students can make a joint application to the Royal Holloway Travel Award & Santander Travel Award, so long as all members are undertaking the same travel or research at the same time. However, please be aware the maximum award amount still applies.

Before completing the application form, please read our guidance information which lists the information you need to include within your application, an example of the application form and the frequently asked questions. We advise you include the following information together in one PDF or Word document within your application;

1. Breakdown of Expenses

2. Itinerary for your project

Your academic reference must be submitted by the same deadline (applications without a reference will not be considered), therefore please ensure you give your referee adequate time to provide you with a reference. If your referee would prefer to send the reference directly they can send it to student-administration@royalholloway.ac.uk.
