Meet Zeus, Cuba’s legendary heavy metal band, in this intimate short documentary about what it’s like to be a rock star in Cuba.

Part of the "This is Cuba" exhibition programme, "Hard Rock Havana" will be screened followed by a Q&A with its director Nicholas Brennan (formerly of VICE, ABC News and the NY Times).

Zeus, the most popular and beloved heavy metal band in Cuba, has had to fight to perform for over 30 years. Now they’re superstars in their own country, but unknown to the outside world. In this short documentary, American filmmaker Nicholas Brennan follows this legendary band to discover what it really means to be a Cuban rock star. Through intimate interviews and gripping live concert footage, a portrait of five musicians trying to live both their lives and their dreams emerges.

Nicholas Brennan is a journalist and filmmaker from New York. He is currently a staff filmmaker at CNN’s Courageous Studios. He has previously worked for ABC News, The New York Times, VICE and for global brands including AT&T, Intel, Toyota, and American Express. He is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where he was a Willard TC Johnson Fellow in the Film & TV program.
