Over the past nine months, as a College we have experienced more than 200 false fire alarms – 165 of these taking place in our Halls of Residences. Every time a fire alarm goes off the building must be evacuated, and as a College, we thank you for doing so promptly on each occasion. However, each one of these false alarms requires College resource to investigate and deal with.

The two biggest causes of false fire alarms in our Halls are smoking and cooking. Please do not smoke in your rooms, or allow others to do so. It puts you and others at risk and is also against the law. When cooking, please don't leave it unattended as food can burn quickly when it's not being checked. If you do leave the room, please turn it off and put it to one side.
