The Study Abroad Fair is on Wednesday 23 October from 5-7pm in the Windsor Building, drop in at any point during these times to find out more from students who have just come back from their year abroad, and from the Study Abroad team.

Hear from other students below, who have shared a summary of their experiences of a year abroad in North America:

Anna Cook Attended partner University of California Santa Barbara for her full year of the International Exchange Programme:

"My study abroad experience took place in the sun and surf of Santa Barbara, almost 5,000 miles away from home. As such my exchange experience was a massive undertaking, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed and immersed myself in. I made some amazing friends and just going out to try new activities like surfing, kayaking, mountain climbing, and hiking, was made all the more special due to the people I did it with. I think my study abroad experience has allowed me to truly explore where my passions lie, academically and personally. The experience showed me that no matter where I am, I’ll be able to cope with any issue or problem that gets thrown my way. While I was abroad, I was able to gain more confidence in myself and my strengths, and I was able to work on things I deemed as weaknesses which motivates me now to continue to push myself academically and personally."

Hongyi Tang attended Boston College, another American partner university:

"The exchange opportunity simply helped me to know the world better. Making new friends, who are from all over the world, is the happiest thing when you leave your country and study abroad. The study abroad team organised many events such as going to see a Red Sox game or a Celtics basketball game. I chose several classes apart from my management related course at Boston College. The most interesting course to me is Chinese Material culture. As an international student from China, I have learnt many ‘different’ things from Fengshui, different styles of paintings, ancient architectures and more. During my year, I spent my Thanksgiving holiday in LA, Christmas vacation in Miami and Easter break in Mexico!"

Amelia Collins attended Ottowa University, Canada for her International Exchange Year:

"I have a countless number of fond memories from my year at Ottawa. There is so much going on, including concerts on campus, festivals and special events to keep up morale in the famous Canadian winter! Academically speaking, the times of the lectures are published well in advance of the beginning of term so that you can customize your timetable to best suit you. There is also an International Office also located on the campus which means there is always somebody there to help you and answer your queries. Whilst at Ottowa, I went skiing, watched an ice-hockey match, went snowshoeing, snowtubing, ice skating and many more snowy activities. It is really like a real-life winter wonderland!"
