Over the past 12 months, our Gardening team have carried out restoration work to one of our ponds in Canada Copse. The pond is an original Victorian feature and is a much-loved area within our estate, an important part of our sustainable drainage network, and a valuable ecological resource. It also contains a number of native and exotic plants and some striking water features.

Restoration works to the pond have been carried out in a phased approach intended to minimise environmental impact to the pond and surrounds. Some of the supporting structure of the pond had deteriorated over time and needed restoring, so it was therefore emptied and dredged. The footbridge and small cascade was rebuilt early last year and the large waterfall and stone ravine have been rebuilt along with the adjacent footpaths. New seats and planting have been installed and works to further replenish the planting will continue throughout 2020.

Through the work that has taken place, the pond area continues to provide a picturesque area of tranquillity and access to nature.
