All are invited to this year's Hayes-Robinson Lecture The future in the rear view mirror, delivered by Professor Sir Chris Clark Regius Professor of History at the University of Cambridge, on Tuesday 7 March at 6:15pm in the Windsor Auditorium on our Egham campus.

Viewed on a calendar or a timeline, the events and the people of history seem to recede from us, growing ever more distant. But the truth is that we have a non-linear relationship with the past. There are moments when a history that seemed finished and locked into the past suddenly moves into our vicinity. In this lecture, Professor Clark reflects on the present-day relevance of 19th-century European history and in particular of the revolutions that rocked the European continent in 1848.

The Hayes-Robinson Lecture, founded in 1931, is named in honour of Miss Margaret Hayes-Robinson, who was the first head of the History Department at Royal Holloway in the 1890s.

All students and staff are welcome, admission is free but please book in advance.
