Earlier this term Active Lifestyle and Sport team hosted a Local Community Sports Day at our Egham Campus. We welcomed around 90 Year 5 and 6 pupils from nine different primary schools in the Woking area.

Student volunteers were instrumental in the success of the event. Volunteers from our sports clubs coached and guided the visiting pupils through new techniques and skills within different sports, including lacrosse, handball, volleyball and touch rugby.

One student volunteer said the day was a “great opportunity to engage with young people and showcase the joys of my sport”.

The teachers from schools who took part were keen to thank the volunteers who were “lively, fun and encouraging” and “committed to giving the primary school children an inspiring experience”.

Royal Holloway Sport hopes to run future community events like this.
