We recently shared information about some updates to the way we use multi-factor authentication (MFA) at the university. Alongside the change to the way we authenticate, we are now bringing in an update so that all students accessing our virtual private network (VPN) will need to use MFA.

These changes will be taking place next Monday 27 March.

For you, this means that from Monday:

  • You will need to use your university email address (username@live.rhul.ac.uk format, e.g. abcd123@live.rhul.ac.uk) to access the university’s virtual private network (VPN)

  • You will now need to use MFA to login to the VPN

  • If you use the push notification method of MFA to login to other services at the university, you will now receive a two-digit number on the device you are working on, which you will be prompted to enter into your phone

These changes will help to keep our community safe, secure and up to date.
