We are writing to you as we are deeply saddened to hear of behaviour that is completely unacceptable at Royal Holloway. We are so incredibly proud to be part of this community, one where we expect the highest standard of mutual respect. We stand by the important concept of universities being a place to challenge, question and learn with people from all countries and of all backgrounds.

Across the UK in recent months, as a result of ongoing global conflicts and issues, universities have seen a rise in both antisemitism and islamophobia on their campuses.

Here at Royal Holloway, we condemn violence, discrimination, and harassment in all forms. We all have a role to play in maintaining a peaceful, respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment, on and off campus.

Pride is something we feel when you, our student community, bring empathy to our campuses each day. It is your combined commitment to respecting one another and being a University of Social Purpose that has enabled conversations exploring shared experiences and understanding amongst our student societies, all supported by the University, Students’ Union and our multifaith Chaplaincy. Let’s work together to sustain this spirit of understanding and care in our very special community.

If you, or someone you know has been affected by racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, or any other form of discrimination, in person or through social media or other activities, we urge you to seek support and report it if you can. Our University’s Wellbeing Support teams and the SU Advice Centre are also here for you.

You can report incidents via RH Be Heard, and if it relates to the Royal Holloway’s Students’ Union, our services, clubs or societies, reports can be made via the RHSU complaints form.

If you require support over the weekend, please contact Campus Security on 01784 443888 in the first instance. Other emergency support options are detailed here including details of mental health crisis lines and support via  Student Space (Student Minds). Togetherall is also available 24/7, every day. Thank you for your continued commitment to living our values, in particular, to being respectful and open. Let’s continue to work together to ensure that our community is one where diversity is celebrated, differences are embraced, and every voice is heard.
