Chestnuts Lecture Theatre, Egham campus, Tuesday 8 July 2025, 10:30am-3:30pm
You’re Invited: Royal Holloway Sanctuary Symposium
Join us for a meaningful day of shared learning, connection, and action as we continue our journey to make Royal Holloway a University of Social Purpose and a place of safety, support and solidarity for refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
This Sanctuary Symposium brings together students, colleagues, researchers and refugee support organisations to exchange knowledge, inspire new ideas, and collaborate on the next steps in our University of Sanctuary work.
Morning: Inspiration and Insight
Presentation on a wide range of work taking place across the university, from academic research to volunteering and community engagement. We will also showcase those we are collaborating with such as Duolingo and community organisations, including the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA), Refugee Education UK, Citizens UK and The Good Chance Theatre, on the vital work being done to support refugees and displaced people.
Afternoon: Collaboration and Co-creation
Join practical, facilitated discussions to explore Royal Holloway’s University of Sanctuary Action Plan. Help shape the practical steps we can take together to deepen our culture of welcome across the university and in partnership with community organisations. Together we will identify ways to embed sanctuary values into everyday university life, from classrooms to campus services, whilst also building stronger partnerships with external organisations.
All colleagues are warmly encouraged to attend and contribute to this important work. Your voice matters, and your participation will help us build a stronger, more inclusive Royal Holloway for all.
We have some very exciting announcements and achievements to share with you, so please do come along and celebrate with us!
