Profile I have over 15 years of teaching experience in English as a Foreign Language and English for Academic Purposes and started my teaching career as a volunteer in Nepal and have since taught in the Netherlands, Indonesia, Lithuania and Myanmar (Burma) where I spent 13 years working for the British Council in a variety of roles, including teacher, teacher trainer and project manager. 
Research interests
  • Intercultural aspects of English language learning and issues around the notion of global citizenship and study abroad.
  • Higher education curricular change and reform.
  • How rationales for internationalization are affecting higher education curricular reform processes.
  • Pedagogic change and innovation.
Publications and conference papers
  • 'Power, Pedagogy and Participation: Children’s Perspectives on Education in Burma’ (DFID funded Research Report; 2011)
  • Currently under submission: ‘Acti-Vistas: The Political Phenomenology of an International Exposure Trip’ (2014).

 Conferences:

  • EFL conference in Mandalay, Myanmar (2014): ‘Writing – Integrating Academic Reading and Writing’ which looks at the problems foreign language students face with academic writing and how this can be overcome by encouraging and developing more structured responses to reading using graphic organizers.  
  • Workshops at ELT conferences in Myanmar on themes such as critical thinking, cooperative learning, the use of drama in education and the Lexical Approach.
