How to have your views heard

There are many ways in which comments, concerns or suggestions about particular aspects of College life may be made:

Personal Advisers or Personal Tutors may be able to help with specific problems you are experiencing and be able to offer practical advice and guidance to resolve any issues.

Student Staff Committees can provide a general means of communicating and resolving difficulties specific to your department, particularly in relation to your programme activities, academic content, teaching and learning resources. Each programme of study should have a designated Student Staff Committee Representative who can be contacted (details can usually be found on department webpages) or you can contact your School helpdesk for the correct contact.

Feedback surveys on teaching, administration and other support services can be completed. At the end of each course you have the opportunity to provide feedback on your course, the content and quality of the teaching and access to resources. You will also be asked for feedback in National Surveys like the National Student Survey (NSS). Feedback is collated from each survey, analysed and considered by senior staff to initiate and guide changes to future courses and services.

Most problems can be resolved through these methods which are readily accessible. If you feel that your concerns have not been resolved through one of these methods, you should contact your department with specific details of the problem so that informal resolution can be explored.

The Students’ Union Advice & Support Centre can offer independent advice on how else to voice your concerns (tel. +44 (0)1784 276700). A support officer will be able to discuss you concerns and help you establish how best to approach your specific circumstances. They will also be able to support you through College procedures, with completing forms and offering independent representation where required.

The complaints procedure is only intended to deal with complaints that cannot be resolved this way or those for which a more formal procedure is appropriate.
