This form is for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students who wish to defer their term 3 alternate assessments due to the impact of Coronavirus. Students who complete this form are confirming that they understand all term 3 assessments will be deferred. You cannot choose to defer some term 3 alternate assessments and complete others.

Before you come to a decision about deferring your assessments, it is strongly recommended that:

You read and ensure you understand the implications of deferring assessment.

You carefully consider your options before applying for a deferral, and to talk any such decision through with academic tutors and your family and friends.

The deadline to apply for deferral of your Term 3 Alternate Assessments is Friday 1 May

Please read the below Key Information before starting to complete the deferral form

If you are studying at Royal Holloway under a Tier 4 visa and you request to defer your assessments to the next available assessment period, which we hope will be later in the summer, your Tier 4 visa sponsorship will continue and nothing will change on your current visa by doing this. However, it is important for you to know that given the ongoing impacts of the pandemic we cannot guarantee when the next available assessment opportunity may be and it is possible that this will not be until April 2021. Please see below for further information If you choose to defer your assessments to April 2021, your deferral of assessment will be reported to UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) and your Tier 4 visa will be cancelled as you will not be in full-time study next academic year. Normally, you would be expected to leave the UK within 60 days of this reporting. However, in the UK and across the world travel is impacted by the outbreak of Covid-19 and we would advise that you look at the gov.uk webpages for further guidance - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-uk-visa-applicants-and-temporary-uk-residents. The UKVI will be provided with the most recent contact details that we have recorded for you on Campus Connect. For further advice, please contact the International Student Support Office. .

Fee liability & Student Finance: If you defer your assessments to next academic year you will remain liable for this year’s tuition fees in full but will not be charged any further tuition fees next academic year. When you return to full time-study, your tuition fee will be calculated based on the current year’s fee, not the fee from the year that you chose to defer your assessments. By deferring assessments to next academic year means that you will not be eligible for funding from Student Finance next academic year. When you return to full-time study following your deferred assessments you will then be able to make a new year’s application for Student Finance funding. If you are deferring your assessment to the summer vacation assessment period and continue to full-time study next academic year you will be able to continue to make a new application for Student Finance funding for next academic year.

If you are in receipt of a Royal Holloway Bursary and you choose to defer your assessments to next academic year you will continue to receive payments this academic year but you will not be eligible for funding next academic year. When you return to full-time study following your deferred assessments you will then be reassessed as to whether you are eligible for a bursary when you return to full-time study. If you are deferring your assessment to the summer vacation assessment period and continue to full-time study next academic year your bursary payments will not be affected and you will be reassessed for your eligibility as standard for a bursary next academic year.

You will have a student record created for next academic and you will need to complete Online Sign-Up in September 2020 to ensure you continue to be registered for your deferred assessments next year. If you are an international student you will need to ensure that you obtain a visa that allows you to complete study in the UK. You will need to show any new visa to the Student Services Centre so a copy can be saved to your record.

Before starting, please ensure you have all the information you need for example your student ID and/or your candidate number, programme of study and that have decided whether you want to defer to the next available assessment period or April 2021.

You will receive an acknowledgement e-mail which confirms you have submitted your deferral of assessment for. Student Administration will e-mail you back within 5 working days of you submitting your form confirming receipt and what will happen next. If you do not receive an acknowledgement e-mail, please email student-administration@royalholloway.ac.uk.

(ii) I understand that by completing this form, I am requesting to defer all of my term 3 alternate assessments to the assessment period I have stipulated in Section 2 of this form.

(iii) I understand that if I have requested to defer my assessments to the summer assessment period in August 2020 and it transpires that the next available opportunity we (the College) can offer you is April 2021, this will mean that I have to return as an assessment only student for one year in order to complete any outstanding assessments.

(iv) I understand that if I have requested to defer my assessments to the next academic year in April 2021 this will mean that I have to return as an assessment only student for one year in order to complete any outstanding assessments.

(vi) I understand that I remain liable for 100% of my tuition fees this academic year, 2019/20.

(vii) I understand that if I am in receipt of a Royal Holloway Bursary I will not be eligible in the year I take my deferred assessment.

(viii) The information I have given in this form is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge.

(ix) I understand that if I seek to gain advantage or benefit by providing false or misleading information the matter will be referred to the Student Discipline Committee and may result in the discontinuation of my registration with the College.
