New Students

Welcome!

We are looking forward to welcoming you to campus very soon.

Enrolment for new students

As a new student you must complete enrolment before commencing your studies. The information below outlines the three steps of enrolment you need to complete if you’re a new student.

You can start to complete your enrolment as soon as you receive your enrolment email.

  • If you're starting your studies in September, you will receive your enrolment email in mid-late August.
  • If you're starting your studies in January, you will receive your enrolment email mid-Deceber.
  • If you're starting a course at any other time during the academic year, you will also be sent an enrolment email before your course begins.

The email will be sent to all students who have accepted their offer of study and will be sent to the personal email address you used when you made your application to study at Royal Holloway. The enrolment email will include your IT account details and instructions on how to complete enrolment.

You need to complete the three steps below to be fully enrolled and begin with your degree course in the 2025/26 academic year. A delay in completing your enrolment could impact your Student Loans payments if you are in receipt of funding from Student Finance.

You should complete enrolment as soon as possible before the start of your course and by your School or Department's enrolment deadline (see below).

Please note, if you are starting a new course with us, for example if you finished an undergraduate course with us in a previous academic year and are now starting a postgraduate course, you will need to read and follow the enrolment instructions for new students below.

Haven’t received your enrolment email?

Before you start your studies as a new student, the Student Services Centre will send you your enrolment email. Enrolment is the process you need to complete to become an official Royal Holloway student, and the enrolment email details the three steps that you need to complete.

Completing all steps of enrolment is an essential process to join our University.

The email will be sent to your registered personal email address; this is the email address you used when applying to study at Royal Holloway, either through UCAS or the Royal Holloway Applicant Portal.

What to do if you haven’t received your enrolment email

Before contacting us to report that you have not received your enrolment email, please make sure you have completed the below.

  • Check your inbox, junk and spam folders

Please ensure you regularly check these folders as your mailbox may mark the email as an unknown sender and put it into junk or spam folders. The email will be sent from studentservices@royalholloway.ac.uk please search "studentservices" in your inbox, junk and spam folders.

  • Check what email address you registered with Royal Holloway

We will send the email to the personal email address you used when making your application to study at Royal Holloway so you will need to log into UCAS or the Royal Holloway Applicant Portal to check what email address we will send it to.

If the email address is recorded incorrectly, for example there is a typo or it is a non-personal email address for example a school, sixth form college or agent email address, you have to update it on UCAS or the Royal Holloway Applicant Portal and then email us to inform us that you have updated it. We will not be able to update your email address on your application portal for you but after you have updated it and informing us, we will ensure we re-send your enrolment email.

If you have completed both of the above steps and waited at least seven days from the confirmation of your place of study please contact the Student Services Centre from your registered personal email address to request a re-send.

You can keep track of which enrolment steps you have completed and check your enrolment status by viewing your 'Start of Session Checklist' card on  Campus Connect. From your 'Home' screen, scroll down or search to find the 'Start of Session Checklist' card. This will show you when you have completed Online Sign-up, Tuition Fee Payment and the Identity Check steps.

The checklist will continue to update closer to the start of your course. You can keep checking every week to see this update and see which steps of your enrolment you’ve completed.

Late arrival and failure to enrol

All new students must enrol with the University at the start of your course by completing the enrolment steps above.

You should aim to arrive as soon as possible for the start of your course and you should complete the relevant steps of your enrolment before your course commences and at the very latest by the deadline set by your School (see enrolment deadline information above).

Experiencing issues with enrolment

You must contact us us as soon as possible to let us know if you're experiencing any issues with completing enrolment so that we can offer you the appropriate advice or support.

If you are not able to arrive and enrol by the deadline set by your School, you will need to fill in a late arrival request form: https://forms.office.com/e/5NMKpCCnMc

Please note that it is your responsibility to let us know if you are experiencing issues enrolling.

What happens if you don't enrol on time

Students will not be permitted to commence their studies and/or enrol after the deadline unless you have exceptionally been granted permission to enrol late by Student Administration or your School. You should also contact your School to discuss this if you won’t be arriving in time for the start of your course, however it is unlikely that they will be able to permit a late enrolment.

If you're unable to enrol by the deadline relevant to your course, without prior approval to enrol late and in the absence of medical or other good reason, this will result in you being deregistered from your course and closure of your student record. This may also mean that:

* You will not be entitled to use any campus facilities, including the Computer Centre, the Library, Campus Account facilities, the Students' Union, or attend lectures and seminars. Your access to University systems will also be revoked.

* For students who are sponsored by Royal Holloway for your student visa, this will be curtailed (cancelled and withdrawn) in line with the UK Visa and Immigration rules.

* There may also be implications for you if you are being sponsored for your tuition fees.

If you have received an email reminding you to complete any outstanding steps of enrolment, you should complete those steps as soon as possible and by the date stated in the email to avoid your record being closed for non-enrolment. See the steps above on how to complete enrolment.

If an outstanding step of your enrolment is arranging payment of your tuition fees and you have any queries about this or you wish to speak to the Student Fees team in-person, you can contact them via Ask Royal Holloway - simply click on the ‘Ask a Question’ button to get in touch; we'll answer your question or give you information about seeing the Student Fees team in-person.

If you are still unable to join the University by the relevant deadline you may need to consider deferring your studies to the following academic year.

Student record closures

If you have received an email explaining that your record has now been closed, but you wish to continue with your studies, you will need to contact us urgently for further advice. We’ll then let you know if you’re able to continue with your studies. You can contact us via Ask Royal Holloway by clicking on the 'Ask a Question' button.

In exceptional circumstances, if your record has been closed but you are then allowed to continue studying with the us through our re-instatement process, please note, you will be liable to pay a £300 reinstatement fee.

These exceptions will only be considered where Student Administration has been informed in advance, in writing of any circumstances that prevent enrolment by the specified time. Student Administration and your School will review your circumstances to ascertain whether late enrolment is viable.

Additional information for late arrivals

  • For students who are due to live in Halls of Residence, you should also inform Student Accommodation of your delay.
  • Your late arrival and enrolment will not change your liability for tuition or accommodation fees.

If you will be arriving before your School’s latest deadline you should continue with your enrolment steps.
