Arrivals Weekend

Going to university is an exciting step, and we want to ensure that your new life here at Royal Holloway gets off to a great start!

Whether you're an undergraduate or postgraduate, recently out of school or had a break from education, living on or off campus, we want to give you the best experience possible.

That's why Welcome Week should not be missed. It's the best time to join our campus community, get involved and make friends for life.

Arrivals day if you're living in Halls

We’ll email you before you arrive so you can complete your online Hall check-in, which gives you all the information you need to get into your Hall and into your room. When you arrive, you’ll need to visit your Hall’s key collection point with your arrival pass and your photo ID to collect your room key. You can then move into your room!

Whether you are moving in on the Saturday or Sunday, you’ll be asked to select a specific arrival time during your online Hall check-in. On the day of your arrival please arrive at the start of your timeslot with your car parking pass displayed on your windscreen – this will help us direct you to your Hall. You must arrive, register, get your keys and move into your accommodation during your slot.

Parking around Halls will be busy, so we’ll ask you to move your car to another parking area as soon as you’ve finished unloading your belongings.  If you need to park for longer than your two-hour arrival slot, please ask one of our marshalls who will be able to direct you to longer stay parking off-campus.  Arrivals parking will close at 8pm, so if your parents or friends are dropping you off they’ll need to have left by that time.

On your first evening you can look forward to a welcome talk and welcome meal, where you’ll meet fellow residents and find out more about living in your Hall.

Arrivals day for local or commuting students

If you’re living locally or commuting, Saturday 22 September is still the beginning of Welcome Week! We've arranged a welcome talk at 3pm in the Boilerhouse Lecture Theatre on Sunday 23. This is where you’ll find out about getting started at Royal Holloway, so make sure you don’t miss it. Please travel to campus by public transport during arrivals weekend as parking will be extremely limited for those not moving into Halls.

What if I absolutely can't avoid arriving late?

You’ll be missing out, but we can make special arrangements if there's a good reason why you can’t get to Royal Holloway for your arrivals day. Let us know as soon as possible at last possible date you can enrol or move into Halls is Friday 12 October.

Family or friends can drop you off on Arrivals Day, but you won't be able to park on campus after that.

On Arrivals Day you can park on campus if you have a Hall car parking pass (as detailed above).  After Arrivals Day students and staff can only park on campus if they have a parking permit. If you park without a permit after Arrivals Day our Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will know and you’ll get a fine.

You won’t usually be allowed to apply for a parking permit if you’re living in Halls or within 1.5 miles of campus.  If you live more than 1.5 miles away from campus or have a particular disability or medical condition, you may be able to apply for a permit.  Kingswood residents can also apply for a Kingswood-only parking permit.

To find out all about parking on campus, and apply for a permit if you’re eligible, please visit our Parking web pages
