Receiving an offer and making a decision

Find out about how and when you'll receive an offer and what to do to make your decision

How are rooms allocated?

We try to allocate so that undergraduates are housed together and postgraduates are housed together, however please note we may need to mix new students with continuing students or undergraduates with postgraduates so that we can offer accommodation to as many students as possible. Where possible, students that have completed an Integrated Foundation Year will be housed with new undergraduates so they are mixed with other students that are starting Year 1 of an undergraduate programme.

When all available rooms have been allocated, any further applications will be placed on a waiting list for consideration as soon as a room becomes available. Please note that if you're currently living in Halls, you will not necessarily be offered the same Hall or room for the new academic year.

If you'd like to find our more about when you can expect to receive an offer of accommodation please take a look at our Student Accommodation Allocation Policy.

Receiving an accommodation offer

When and how will I hear if my application has been successful?

To find out when you’re likely to hear about your application, please refer to page seven our Student Accommodation Allocation Policy.

During the period you're expecting to hear from us, make sure you check the Online Accommodation System daily to see if we've made you an offer. If your application for accommodation is successful, we'll also send you an email to let you know. Make sure you check the system regularly and don't rely on the email as sometimes this can end up in your junk folder.

Depending on what time of year you apply for accommodation you will either be given five calendar days in which to respond to the offer or two calendar days. Please check the Student Accommodation Allocation Policy more information.

Accepting your offer - I’ve received an offer and would like to accept, what do I need to do?

To accept your offer, log into the Online Accommodation System, then:

  • Click on “View and Accept offer” on the left hand side under the heading “Application & Contract”
  • Read the details of the room carefully and make sure you’ve read the Terms and Conditions and tick the box to confirm.
  • Enter your student ID number and your date of birth in the boxes provided at the bottom of the page.
  • Click “Accept”

Once you’ve successfully accepted your offer, a confirmation email will be sent to you.

Don’t forget to accept your accommodation offer before it expires! The deadline will appear in your offer email, so make sure you check this carefully.

It’s important to note that by accepting this offer you are accepting financial liability for the full duration of the contract so make sure you've read our Terms and Conditions before accepting. In order to accept your accommodation offer, you will need to make a non-refundable prepayment of £300. This will be deducted from the first instalment of your accommodation fees.

Having trouble accepting your offer?

If you'd like to accept your offer of accommodation but are having difficulty in doing so, please contact Student Accommodation to explain the reasons why. Please ensure you contact the team before your offer expires.

Declining your offer

I wanted to live in a different Hall to the one I’ve been offered, what can I do?

It is not possible to change your offer of accommodation. You will be offered the best available room that we have at the time we process your application. Whilst every effort is made to accommodate the preferences you have selected, on occasion we may be unable to fulfil them due to a lack of availability of certain types of accommodation at the time the offer is being made.

It’s important to note that when accepting an offer of accommodation this will form a binding contract between you and the university, so you should only accept offer of accommodation made to you if you are willing to live in the room for the duration of the contract. If you are not willing to stay in the room for the duration we recommend that you take advantage of local private sector opportunities.

I’ve received an offer and I would like to decline it, what do I need to do?

To decline your offer, log into the Online Accommodation System, then:

  • Click on “View and Accept offer” on the left hand side under the heading “Application & Contract”
  • Click “decline” in the bottom left hand corner of the page.

Expired offers

You can find out when you can expect to hear about your offer in our Student Accommodation Allocation Policy. Please make sure you’re checking the Online Accommodation System on a daily basis during this time. Offers will also be sent by email, but we'd recommend checking the system first as our emails could end up in your junk folder.

When you receive an offer from us, you’ll need to respond by the deadline stated. If you don’t respond to the offer in the Online Accommodation System by the deadline, your offer will expire and you may lose the opportunity to live in Halls of Residence.

How long will I have to review and accept or decline the offer?

The deadline will be clearly stated on your accommodation offer. Further details can also be found on the last page of the allocation policy.

I’ve received an offer but it has expired, what should I do?

Please contact the Student Accommodation.
