Societies

GradJobsQuickGuide

For information about joining societies click here.

The Careers & Employability Service works closely with a number of student groups and is always keen to talk to new or existing societies about working together to help students into work or further study.

What we could provide for your society

Talks and workshops

An experienced careers consultant will discuss with you the needs of your group and will design an engaging, interactive careers session to meet your group’s needs.

Typical subjects include CVs, applications, interviews, choosing a career and applying for internships. All you need to do is provide a location and promote the event to your members.

Large employability events

Planning a large scale event or a series of events? The careers service has extensive experience in managing careers events and a reputation for delivering a consistently high level of service and quality of information.

Once you have sketched out your initial ideas, we can help make sure your hard work isn’t wasted by:

  • Brainstorming with you engaging workshop topics, competitions and activities
  • Helping you decide when and where to schedule the event to maximise attendance
  • Helping you develop an action plan (who you need to contact, rooms you need to book, resources you need to acquire, how you will promote the event, etc)
  • Providing a careers consultant-run careers workshop for your event

Our aim is to empower you to make your event a success, so that you can go about sourcing and inviting speakers, designing the details of your sessions and managing the logistics with confidence.

Checking the quality of organisations that approach you

If you have been approached by an organisation, such as a company, a recruitment agency or other initiative, the careers service can help you assess whether the organisation is offering genuine benefits to your group.
