On Track: Digital Researcher and Communicator: Creating Content for Sharing on Social Media Workshop
What is it?
A workshop aiming to introduce researchers to a range of social media tools, how to use them effectively for promoting their research and how to use a smartphone to create engaging social content.
At the end of the ½ day workshop staff will have:
- Reviewed a number of social media apps and determined how to use them effectively in disseminating and promoting research.
- Discussed and practiced some ways of creating their own content for social media using their smartphone.
- Considered the strengths and weaknesses of using social media.
- Depending on the experience on Twitter, set up or reviewed their Twitter account, and established individual social media goals for the next few months
The session is open to staff at all levels of social media experience, from beginners to those already creating their own social content in text, images, audio or video.
The workshop will include a mixture of group discussion and practical work using your smartphone. Please bring your smartphone or a tablet as well as your laptop with you if you can.

- Current trends in social apps in higher education
- Raising your research profile through social media
- Promoting and disseminating your research
- Writing, audio recording and filming for social media (style/audience)
- ‘A production tool in your pocket’ - practical tips on using smartphone for creating social media content
