Fees and expenses

The fee information for study abroad students can vary depending on how you are applying to study with us.  If you are a student from one of our partner universities, you may be charged a different fee from those given in the table below, and for this reason you should always apply through your international office.  If you are applying from the US through the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University or Arcadia University College of Global Studies, you will be able to take advantage of an agreed package fee which includes tuition and accommodation.  All Study Abroad students are automatically included in the Social Programme without any additional charge.

The fee for Masters students is £17,000 for the full calendar year.  Students who stay for less than a year will be billed on a monthly pro rata basis.

The British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a place as a study abroad student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX, such as Royal Holloway. Each scholarship is worth £500 and will be paid to recipients once they have arrived and registered at Royal Holloway

Financial Aid

Your home institution will be able to advise you on whether financial aid is available to help fund study abroad.  You may be able to continue with your current funding programme while abroad, and some universities have dedicated bursary schemes to assist with additional expenses such as air travel or health insurance.

In addition to the tuition and accommodation fees, about £140 to £150 per week will cover meals, some local travel, study-related costs, entertainment and other personal items.  However, this will vary from one student to another depending on lifestyle.

An approximate term-time weekly cost might be as follows:

Food and Toiletries £40 - £50
Mobile Telephone £10
Travel (with 30 per cent discount) £25
Books and equipment £10
