David, a 4th year physicist at Royal Holloway, spent nine weeks in summer 2010 at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France, working with Dr P.P. Deen on a stoichiometric study of the laves phase compound ZrMn2. He was involved in all stages of the project, including fabrication, x-ray diffraction and polarised neutron diffraction.
Russell was at Queen Mary, University of London for eight weeks in summer 2010 to help with their spectroscopic research into metal tris-hydroxyquinolates. His work included the use of advanced equipment such as luminescence equipment, which involved a laser, a cryostat and liquid nitrogen.
