The Roland Dobbs Physics Award

Photo of Roland With the help of Professor Mike Lea (Emeritus Professor, Department of Physics) and Professor Mike Green (Honorary Fellow of Royal Holloway and Former Head of Physics) we are reaching out to Physics alumni and staff to establish The Professor Roland Dobbs Physics Award in memory of his lifelong commitment to physics and the support of young physicists. Professor Dobbs may have retired from his position as Head of Physics in 1990, but he lay the foundations of Physics at the College which would go on to gain an international reputation for its research and to become one of the top 5 in the UK.

Professor Dobbs knew how important it is for research students to attend conferences, to present papers and to visit other laboratories. It allows them to meet a wider circle of people working in their research field, meeting someone who inspires them with new ideas about their research, or who even offers them a job when they graduate.

We hope that you will join us in carrying on Professor Dobbs’ legacy and support today’s post-graduate students research, travel and develop their areas of expertise.

How can I help?

A gift of £100 will…	Pay for travel and accommodation to present a research paper in the UK.
A gift of £250 will…	Pay for a PhD student to visit an overseas research centre to share research.
A gift of £500 will…	Go towards accommodation for a longer placement at a partner institution, where closer collaboration can be cemented.
